Part 1 - Sudoku Basics Techniques

Sudoku Sudoku Basics

Sudoku Basics

Sudoku is a numbers game. To solve these puzzles, all you need is simple
Logic and there's no mathematics involved. In this episode, we cover the
basics of Sudoku (rows, columns, boxes, big rows, big columns, candidates,
buddies and givens)

Time: 3:34 mins

Sudoku Rules of Sudoku

Rules of Sudoku

In this Video tutorial, we explore the rules of Sudoku. There are essentially
3 rules of Sudoku. We show you examples of moves that violate the rules of
Sudoku and show you valid moves that comply with the rules of Sudoku.

Time: 4:42 mins

Sudoku Concepts and Terminology

Concepts and Terminology

In this Video tutorial, we discuss 4 important concepts in Sudoku Solving
techniques. We discuss the concept of unique solutions. We also explore
minimal sudoku puzzles (sudokus with the least number of givens) and the
concept of symmetry. We also introduce you to the concept of buddies.

Time: 5:53 mins

Sudoku Single Choice (Naked Singles)

Single Choice (Naked Singles)

In this tutorial, we start with the first technique in solving sudokus. It's
called Single Choice or Naked Singles. Any cells which have only one
candidate can safely be assigned that value. It is very important whenever a
value is assigned to a cell, that this value is also excluded as a candidate
from all other blank cells sharing the same row, column and box. We walk
through some easy puzzles and demonstrate Naked Singles.

Time: 5:53 mins

Sudoku Candidates

Candidates

In this tutorial, we show you how to add candidates or pencil marks in the
empty cells while solving sudokus. It's impossible to get very far without
carefully maintaining a list of 'possible values' or candidates for each
blank cell. Candidates are very essential to understanding some of the
advanced techniques, so we cover the concept of candidates in great detail
with real examples.

Time: 6:28 mins

Sudoku Scanning

Scanning

Scanning is probably the most useful technique in solving the majority of
Sudoku's. Using real sudoku examples, we show you how to narrow down your
candidates using Scanning and actually solve cells.

Time: 6:53 mins

Scanning- Scanning-

Sudoku Elimination

Elimination

Elimination can be used quote often in easy and medium Sudoku puzzles. All
you have to do is find a candidate that appears only once within a row, a
column or a box, then you can safely use that candidate to solve the cell. In
this tutorial, we show you step by step how to find these hidden singles.

Time: 6:21 mins

Part 2 - Intermediate Sudoku Techniques

Sudoku Naked Pairs

Naked Pairs

A Naked Pair is an isolated pair of candidates that appear exactly in two
cells within a row, a col, or a box. Need more information? Watch this
tutorial where we show you exactly how to use Naked Pairs in a variety of
situations.

Time: 5:21 mins

Sudoku Naked Triplets

Naked Triplets

You can easily extend the logic of naked pairs to three cells and this
technique is called Naked Triplets. A Naked Triple occurs when three cells in
a group contain no candidates other that the same three candidates. The cells
which make up a Naked Triple don't have to contain every candidate of the
triple. If these candidates are found in other cells in the group they can be
excluded.

Time: 8:43 mins

Sudoku Naked Quadruplet

Naked Quadruplet

The same principle that applies to Naked Pairs can also be applied to four
cells - Naked Quadruplets. These are hard to spot, but we show you some tips
and tricks to identify this arrangement.

Time: 3:58 mins

Sudoku Hidden Pairs

Hidden Pairs

In Hidden Pairs, you are still looking for 2 identical candidates in exactly
2 cells within a group, just like we did in Naked Pairs. But this time, the
pairs are "hidden" amongst other candidates. If two cells in a group contain
a pair of candidates (hidden amongst other candidates) that are not found in
any other cells in that group, then other candidates in those two cells can
be excluded safely.

Time: 4:43 mins

Sudoku Hidden Triplets

Hidden Triplets

If three candidates are restricted to three cells in a given group, then all
other candidates in those three cells can be excluded. In this video
tutorial, we show you how Hidden Triplets work. We also show you how to find
the "hidden" interlopers in Triplets that make them difficult to spot.

Time: 4:23 mins

Sudoku Interaction Part 1 (Locked Candidates)

Interaction Part 1 (Locked Candidates)

Sometimes a candidate within a box is restricted to one row or column. Since
one of these cells must contain that specific candidate, the candidate can
safely be excluded from the remaining cells in that row or column outside of
the box. In this video tutorial, we explore this interaction between a row
and a box.

Time: 2:55 mins

Sudoku Interaction Part 2 (Locked Candidates)

Interaction Part 2 (Locked Candidates)

Sometimes a candidate within a row or column is restricted to one box. Since
one of these cells must contain that specific candidate, the candidate can
safely be excluded from the remaining cells in the box. In this video
tutorial, we explore this interaction between a column and a box.

Time: 2:50 mins

Part 3 - Advanced Sudoku Techniques

Sudoku X Wing - Column Variation

X Wing - Column Variation

The X Wing family of techniques are no more difficult than the simpler
techniques, but require observation as to how specific candidates relate to
each other (in particular patterns) beyond any given row, column or box. In
this video tutorial, we deconstruct the X-Wing technique and show you how to
use it to eliminate candidates.

Time: 7:16 mins

X Wing - Column Variation- X Wing - Column Variation-

Sudoku X Wing - Row Variation

X Wing - Row Variation

In this video tutorial, we'll cover the row variation of the X-wing
technique. This time, we'll use columns to identify our X-Wing and eliminate
candidates from the rows.

Time: 2:49 mins

Sudoku SwordFish - Column Variation

SwordFish - Column Variation

In this video tutorial, we explore the Swordfish technique. The Swordfish
technique is very similar to the X-wing technique. The only difference is
that in X-Wing you're looking for rows and columns Whereas in Swordfish,
you're looking for rows and columns.

Time: 6:40 mins

Sudoku SwordFish - Row Variation

SwordFish - Row Variation

In this episode, we'll cover the row variation of the Swordfish technique. We
call it the Row variation, because this time, we'll be removing candidates
from the instead of Columns. So the name of the variation comes from we
remove the candidates from.

Time: 3:51 mins

Sudoku JellyFish

JellyFish

In X-wing we looked at 2 rows and columns And in Swordfish we looked at three
rows and columns. Now in JellyFish, we'll be looking at <4> rows and columns.
So JellyFish is simply an extension of the Swordfish Technique.

Time: 3:43 mins

Sudoku XY Wing

XY Wing

The XY wing is quite an advanced technique and just like in many of the
previous techniques, it helps us in eliminating candidates from certain
cells. So let's see this technique in action in this video tutorial.

Time: 4:39 mins

Sudoku XYZ Wing

XYZ Wing

The XYZ wing is simply an extension of the XY wing, but with a slightly
different arrangement. In this video tutorial, we demonstrate several
variations of the XYZ arrangement.

Time: 5:15 mins

Sudoku WXYZ Wing

WXYZ Wing

The WXYZ-Wing tecnique is simply an extension of the XYZ-Wing. The objective
of using this technique is to eliminate a certain candidate Z instead of
finding out a solution to a cell. Similar to XYZ-Wing, one of the cells has
the candidates WXYZ.

Time: 5:15 mins

Part 4 - Very Advanced for the Addict

Sudoku Linked Pairs

Linked Pairs

Linked Pairs is quite an advanced solving technique. The method is also
sometimes called Remote Pairs. Its name comes from a collection of locked
pairs that are linked together remotely. In this episode, we show you how to
eliminate candidates using linked pairs in the Sudoku Puzzle.

Time: 5:15 mins

Sudoku Grid Coloring Part 1

Grid Coloring Part 1

In Grid Coloring, we use conjugate pairs among cells where one cell of the
pair must be true while the other must be false. We use colors to hightlight
these true-false states and make interesting deductions that help us in
eliminating candidates.

Time: 6:09 mins

Sudoku Grid Coloring Part 2

Grid Coloring Part 2

In Grid Coloring part 2, we use a variation in logic to solve complex sudoku
puzzles.

Time: 5:17 mins

Sudoku Multicolors Part 1

Multicolors Part 1

In Multicolors, we use 2 sets of true-false chains instead of one. So we use
4 different colors to use this technique. Thi s is a really interesting
technique and very powerful.

Time: 5:07 mins

Sudoku Multicolors Part 2

Multicolors Part 2

Multicolors part 2 is just a variation of the technique used in part 1. It
brings out lots of interesting scenarios.

Time: 5:13 mins

Sudoku Bilocation Graphs

Bilocation Graphs

This technique is borrowed from Dr. Epstein's research at the University of
California. In this technique you make a simple path diagram connecting
candidates that appear in no other possible places in a group (row, column or
box). This path diagram then helps us make some awesome conclusions.

Time: 6:40 mins

Sudoku Nishio (Guessing and Backtracking)

Nishio (Guessing and Backtracking)

If you've tried everything else you can think of, you can try guessing and
the backtracking method. Most puzzles which require guessing are obviously
not well constructed puzzles. But once in a while we do encounter puzzle
where nothing seems to work. here you can try Nishio. We show you how to make
guesses and draw rewarding deductions from the guess.

Time: 4:45 mins

Part 5 - Miscellaneous

Sudoku Sudoku History

Sudoku History

In this episode, we cover how Sudoku was created and became popular. We cover
the story of how retired Judge Wayne Gould became wealthy via Sudoku
Syndication and some more intresting trivia about Sudoku.

Time: 3:02 mins

Sudoku Sudoku Variations

Sudoku Variations

In Sudoku variations, we cover interesting variations of Sudoku such as
Wordoku, Squiggly sudoku, Sudoku for Kids, 10 x10, 12 x 12, 16 x 16 and
Samurai Sudokus. You can enjoy these variations if you get bored of the
classic 9 x 9 format.
